What I've Been Currently Reading, Watching, and Playing
October feels like controlled chaos in the best way with one part cozy blanket, one part caffeine-fueled side quest. I’ve been leaning into a mix of comfort and curiosity lately, diving into stories and games that make me feel grounded while also keeping things delightfully unpredictable. Here’s a peek into what I've been currently reading, watching, and playing.
📚 Reading
After being in a reading slump for most of September, something finally clicked during the last week, and I devoured Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister and If Cats Disappeared from the World by Genki Kawamura. Both were 5-star reads that reminded me why I love getting lost in a good story.
If Cats Disappeared from the World especially caught me off guard. I picked it up without much thought and ended up finishing it in one sitting, left staring at the wall and rethinking everything for a bit. It’s one of those deceptively simple stories that leaves your brain humming afterward.
Since October started, I finished How to Train Your Dragon (a spontaneous pick that felt like a needed palate cleanser) and I’m currently reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I’ve had it on hold in Libby forever, and it finally came through. I’ve been reading more for comfort lately, and as a way to lower my screen time, so cozy romances and thrillers have been my sweet spot. The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose is already queued up next on my TBR.
🎬 Watching
My husband and I just finished Ryan Trahan’s 50 States in 50 Days series, and wow, what a ride. It was emotional, chaotic, funny, and just overall so human. It was also just for a great cause because they were raising money for St. Jude. We’ve started his One Penny videos now because apparently, we can’t get enough of his energy.
Outside of that, I picked Grey’s Anatomy back up, which is one of my ultimate comfort shows. There’s just something about revisiting old episodes that feels like catching up with old friends. And for something completely random, my husband decided we should start watching Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers before bed which has been our little nightly nostalgia trip.
🎮 Playing
No surprise here but The Sims has remained a constant in my gaming lineup, but lately I’ve added Fortnite back into the mix and discovered a new obsession: Waterpark Simulator. I’m fully hooked. There’s something about the chaos of running a virtual waterpark that’s equal parts hilarious and soothing.
Fortnite has been my go-to comfort game, especially when I’m playing with my husband or siblings. It’s that perfect mix of competition and laughter that turns any random night into a mini adventure. I’ve also been feeling really inspired by Not So Kaylee on YouTube. Her Sims content has definitely fueled my recent gameplay ideas!
If I had to describe my gaming era right now, it’s chaotic but cozy with a lot of building, surviving, and probably setting something on fire in The Sims (by accident, of course).
Reflection
This month feels like the definition of cozy chaos: reading slower, watching familiar faces, but also jumping headfirst into random side quests just because they sound fun. My reading has been soft and reflective, while my gaming has been pure chaos, and I kind of love the balance.
It’s nice to realize that comfort doesn’t always mean stillness since sometimes it’s just laughter at midnight, switching from Perks of Being a Wallflower to Fortnite, or just saying “why not?” to another random hobby. October has been that kind of month.
