Filed Under J for Joy (and Jonas)
They said I’d never find a Jonas Brothers CD while thrifting. They were right. But they didn’t say anything about a concert DVD and a tour book. I thrift a lot and have had this idea in my head that I am going to thrift some older Jonas Brothers CDs for our CD collection. My husband told me that it would never happen because we rarely see bands from the 2000's at our stores, but I told him that he was wrong. And he was, kind of.
The Thrift Gods Were in Their Jonas Era
On two separate occasions, my jaw dropped in the thrift store. First, I found Burning Up: On Tour with the Jonas Brothers which is a photo tour book. It really wasn't in the greatest condition, and I don't even know how I noticed it mixed in with all the books, because I wasn't even actively looking at the books. I was flipping through DVDs, still on the hunt for Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2. The familiar logo on the spine of the book is what caught my eye. I grabbed that book so fast and for only $2, that book came home with me. The cover was falling off, and I almost left it behind, but thankfully my sister insisted. She was right.
On Wednesday of this week, I decided to go thrifting after my haircut and I'm glad that I did. I didn't find Camp Rock, but I did find something else for only 25 cents at a nearby thrift. I found the Jonas Brothers: The Concert Experience in perfect condition! My husband and I collect movies, so I was ecstatic to add this one to the collection. I did come home and watch it immediately!
Why the Jonas Brothers Still Have Me in a Chokehold
The Jonas Brothers hold major nostalgia for me. I was obsessed with them growing up to the point where my mom was going to surprise me with tickets on the Camp Rock 2 Tour. Unfortunately, and I struggle to forgive them, the tour was cancelled, and I didn't get to see them as a kid. Fast forward to 2023, my mom got us tickets to see them twice! That tour is what got my sister and mom obsessed with them too. Fast forward again and we were waiting 13 hours to see Joe Jonas at his solo show at Universal. And one more time, we are going to see them in October of this year when they are back in Orlando for their newest tour!
So not only does this give me nostalgia, but now it brings me even more comfort since they bring me closer to my mom and sister. It sounds silly, but this band holds a very special place in my heart and always will.
Let Your Inner Teen Have This One
It really is the little things that can bring you happiness. It's not always about the productivity or the achievements you make, but it can come from allowing yourself to feed your inner child. These two small purchases didn't even cost me $3 and the amount of happiness they provided was immeasurable. It may not be a Jonas Brothers CD, but I can play the movie however many times I want and can flip through the book whenever I want. Sometimes, you're allowed to buy yourself some happiness, especially if it is Jonas Brothers shaped!
Your Turn: What’s Your Nostalgia Buy?
I know you do it too and I want to know the last thing you bought that just simply brought you some happiness or nostalgia. It doesn't have to be Jonas Brothers or even music related, it can be a new blanket! Tell me in the comments below. Nostalgia doesn’t have to be practical, it just has to make you feel good. And if it’s Jonas-shaped happiness in thrifted form? Even better.
